The Council’s Vision: Equity from the Start

"One-quarter of Canada's children between birth and age 6 are experiencing some learning or behavioural difficulty. These problems in the early years have been shown to correlate with later difficulties in school performance, social adjustment and health."

McCain, Mustard and Shanker (2007)

The Council envisions a national system of early child development that reflects the critical importance of the earliest years on life-long health, learning and behaviour for every Canadian and that provides every child with equity from the start and equitable outcomes later in life.
