Background

Founded by Dr. Fraser Mustard in 2004, the Council for Early Child Development is based on the recommendations of the Ontario Early Years Study (McCain & Mustard, 1999).

The Council's Board of Directors draws from business, education, health, academia, early child development communities, and private citizens.

Supported by foundation and private sector contributions, the Council is a not-for-profit, non-governmental association of community and scientific networks with a focus on early child development science and community action.

The Council?s Vision

The Council envisions a national system of early child development that reflects the critical importance of life-long health, learning and behaviour for every Canadian and that provides every child with equity from the start and equitable outcomes later in life.

The Council?s Mission

To close the gap between what we know about early human development and what we do for children in their earliest years. By:

  • being a trusted resource and reliable source of the most recent knowledge and data about early child development and the well-being of children;
  • engaging, informing and energizing the commitment and capacity in communities of individuals, leadres and organizations to act; and
  • facilitating and convening people to discuss, plan and develop integrated early child development programs and systems at every level.
