Council for Early Child Development

Maritime Chapter
of the Council for Early Child Development

The Nova Scotia Chapter of the Council for Early Child Development is a growing network of people and organizations working towards the development of integrated services and supports for families and young children in our Maritimes.

The Mission of the Maritime Chapter of the Council

The mission of the Maritime Chapter of the Council is to better support early child development and parenting in the region.

The Chapter plans tol work to further consolidate and strengthen the network of Early Child Development, Parenting Support and Care professionals around the region. This network is inclusive of all interested individuals and groups and will always set another place at the table to support the building of relationships.

The Chapter promotes collaboration across sectors and within and between communities. The goal is to form a truly integrated system of supports for all families with young children. Through this growing network of professionals, government, community groups and business, the Chapter will act as a catalyst to support the development of both policies and community based actions that provide a more holistic response to needs of children, families and communities.

Interim Objectives of the Chapter
  • Host a workshop in September at Mount St. Vincent University that will provide a forum for members from the early child development, education, health, parenting support and child care communities to come together to share our successes, build relationships, dialogue on the challenges and work on developing a common language, understanding and vision.
  • Investigate tools to grow and strengthen the network of early child development, parenting, care and community champions from across the province (such as developing a Maritime Community Fellows program, the use of the tele-health system and the development of an interactive provincial web site.
  • Make available the stories and scientific evidence behind early child development program successes found locally, regionally, nationally or internationally.
  • Develop effective social marketing techniques to reach and engage communities, business and society.
  • Develop a leadership forum from across the sectors and disciplines to share in the understanding of the importance of early child development and parenting to the health of societies.
  • Work to develop a vision and framework that integrates and consolidates our efforts at the individual, family, neighbourhood, community, regional and provincial level in support of families and young children.
