The Early Development Instrument (EDI) is a short, teacher-administered checklist measuring children’s readiness to learn at school according to five domains of development: physical health and well-being; social knowledge and competence; emotional health/maturity; language and cognitive development; and general knowledge and communication skills.
The EDI is the primary tool used by the Consortium in their international technical assistance initiative. The following resources provide background information about the EDI, explanations and instructions for administering it, validity and reliability statistics and examples of how EDI data can be used.
Please note that all EDI users are required to enter into a data sharing agreement with the Offord Center for Child Studies, who holds its copyright.
